Hyundai has remained tight-lipped on specifics, but recent sightings of camouflaged prototypes suggest a design heavily influenced by the 2021 Ioniq Seven concept. The concept’s unconventional greenhouse design is a strong indicator of the boldness we can expect from the production model. Hyundai has a proven track record of imbuing each Ioniq model with a distinct personality, and this SUV is poised to continue that tradition.
Under the bonnet, or rather, beneath the floor, rumours point towards the E-GMP platform that serves as the foundation for other Hyundai electric offerings and platform-sharing cousins like the Kia EV9. This shared architecture hints at potential powertrain and battery configurations. The EV9 boasts a maximum output of 278 kW and a sizeable 99.8 kWh battery pack. Like the EV9, Hyundai’s upcoming SUV is expected to offer both six- and seven-seat configurations, with a possible focus on six-seaters to differentiate itself from its Kia counterpart.

While the concept car sported a futuristic look, the production model will likely take a more conventional route. Expect a design that incorporates elements from Hyundai’s current SUV design language, which blends boxy forms with flowing curves for a modern aesthetic. The biggest question mark remains the SUV’s name. The logical choice seems to be Ioniq 7, but rumours of Ioniq 9 have also surfaced.
Only time will tell which moniker Hyundai bestows upon this family-friendly electric three-row SUV offering. With more information expected to trickle out as the debut nears, stay tuned for a clearer picture of Hyundai’s exciting new electric contender.
